The Portrait Experience
Portrait sessions aren’t about stiff poses or perfect behavior. They’re about connection, movement, and letting people be themselves while I guide things just enough to keep it effortless and natural.
1
Booking
Once you reach out, we’ll talk through the type of session you’re planning and choose a date that fits your schedule and the light. A signed contract and retainer officially reserve your session, and I’ll send a short planning guide to help you feel prepared without overthinking it.
2
Choosing the Correct Setting
Location plays a big role in the feel of your images, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. I help clients choose environments that support natural interaction and good light rather than pulling focus.
Popular setting styles include:
-
Shaded parks with open space for movement
-
Tree-lined paths and live oaks with Spanish moss
-
Quiet waterfront areas with soft, reflective light
-
Urban pockets with texture like brick, iron, or neutral architecture
If you’re unsure, I’ll guide you toward a setting that fits your group, your timeline, and the season.
3
What to Wear (and What to Skip)
The goal is coordination, not matching. Choose a soft, cohesive color palette and let each person’s outfit feel like a variation on the same theme rather than a uniform.
Helpful tips:
-
Neutrals and muted tones photograph beautifully in natural light
-
Texture adds interest: linen, knits, denim, soft layers
-
Avoid large logos, busy patterns, or neon colors
-
Comfortable clothing allows for movement and interaction
I’m always happy to review outfit choices if you want a second opinion.

During Your Session
Sessions are guided but relaxed. I’ll give gentle direction, prompts, and movement-based cues so you’re never left wondering what to do. Kids are encouraged to be kids, and breaks are always welcome when needed.
Perfection isn’t the goal. Connection is.
5
After the Session
You’ll receive a sneak peek shortly after your session, followed by a fully edited digital gallery delivered within the timeframe outlined in the FAQ. Images are edited with care and consistency, focusing on natural color and timeless tones.

A Note for Families with Children
No one is expected to perform. Wiggles, laughter, quiet moments, and in-between interactions often become the most meaningful images. I build sessions around flexibility and patience rather than rigid posing.
