My name is Kelly and I am currently working as a wedding and family portrait photographer in Summerville, SC. I absolutely love what I do, but I am always wanting to expand my portfolio, as well as working on more personal projects. I don’t believe that creativity will ever come if I stick too closely into a single comfort zone.
At this time I am beginning work on a project featuring the different ages, shapes, and sizes that embody health and fitness. I am a firm believer that there is no single shape, size, or age that shows exactly what a fit and healthy look like. I would love to do a photo series focusing on this subject.
I really just want to show that the body of a runner may look different than the body of a football player. Or that someone who does Zumba may be built differently than someone who kickboxes. I would like to show how the figure of a ballet dancer may be different than that of a softball player. I want to show that health and fitness is not confined to one type of person, one age, one build, or any one stereotype.
Models would be photographed outdoors on-location in different places in and around Summerville, such as parks and sidewalks/running paths. I would like to have subjects performing very minimal bodyweight exercises, such as squats, lunges, and pushups to convey the fitness theme. If the model happens to have a specific fitness style, props may be brought along as well, such as a baseball bat, yoga mat, or basketball. I will also take some photos that would be more posed and portrait-style.
Fitted athletic clothing would be required, but nothing revealing or inappropriate in any way. These are not meant to be anything other than a celebration of health and fitness in all of its forms.
The project would be shared on my website and via social media. All models would have to be comfortable with this and be willing to sign a model-release form stating that I have permission to do so. Ideally, the project's shooting time would finish by the end of May this year, as that is when my wedding season will be picking up significantly.
